The only time I pass on two-lane roads is if it’s a tractor going about 5mph or a cyclist. Even then I wait for both them to acknowledge the pass and for a long stretch of clear road.
I wonder if he was wearing his seat belt, since it sounds like the ejection is what did him in.

‘69 could be lap belts only, which are a bit easier to slide out of.

I’d say a big take away here is drive safer cars. There’s a good chance he wouldn’t have crashed in a newer car, and he certainly wouldn’t have been ejected.

Shoulder belts were mandated for front seats in 1968.

For non-’verts, yeah. For ‘verts shoulder belts were still optional until 1970.

Huh, you’d think smashing your head on the windshield frame would have made shoulder belts more necessary.

Yeah, it’s not even like there’s some complex installation process. I’m sure there’s a reason but I don’t know it.
